From September 22 through 29 my wife and I went on an ocean cruise from Seattle to Alaska on the Royal Caribbean ship Ovation of the Seas. If you have not been on a large ship like this one, then you might wonder if you would get bored. The answer is heck no. There are very many amenities: sports activities, both indoor and outdoor pools & hot tubs, and lots of venues with entertainment and shopping. Sports activities include a rock-climbing wall and bumper cars (both shown above), the FlowRider wave pool, and the RipCord skydiving simulator. The same area used for bumper cars also is used for roller skating, basketball, etc. You can run or jog on an outdoor track, or even play shuffleboard. There are indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs.
Of course, there is a casino (shown above), a music hall, and a theater. Also lots of shops.
If you want to see where you’re going, then you can go to the adults only Solarium at the bow and look forward through windows while lying on a chaise lounge (in a warm humid environment near hot tubs and pools). Conversely, if you want to see where you’ve been, then you can go sit in the stern lounge called Two70o and look to port, starboard or stern (270 degrees).
For a different perspective you can make an appointment for a trip in the NorthStar (shown above) and climb into that observation capsule on an arm that can get raised high above the ship.
