From September 22 through 29 my wife Elaine and I went on an ocean cruise from Seattle to Alaska on the Royal Caribbean ship Ovation of the Seas. If you have not been on a large ship like this one, then you might wonder if you would get hungry. The answer is heck no. There are very many dining options.

If you get hungry at other than regular mealtimes, then you can visit the 24-hour Café Promenade on Deck 4, which has a case (shown above) of refrigerated sandwiches or wraps and desserts, along with coffee and tea. Next to it is Sorrento’s Pizzeria which is open from before noon to 3:00 AM. If those aren’t sufficient, then you can pay for room service, or in mornings visit La Patisserie.

The simplest option is one of the four main dining rooms on Decks 3 and 4. For dinner there is a first assigned seating at 5:00 PM (which we used), and a second at 7:30 PM.  A dinner menu from Wednesday September 26 is shown above. Typically you get a half-dozen choices for starter, main course, and dessert.

There also are several premium restaurants: the Chops Grille (menu also shown above), Chef’s Table, Izumi Japanese Cuisine, Jamie’s Italian, and the trendy Wonderland with amazing tall chairs (me in one, and a menu also shown above). We didn’t try any of the premium dining, or order a premium drinks package.

If you prefer the challenge of having many more choices, then you can visit the humongous Windjammer Marketplace buffet on Deck 14. At the entrance you are led past a hand-wash station with about ten sinks. You can view a 13-minute YouTube video titled Ovation of the Seas Windjammer Buffet.

There are smaller buffets at the Solarium bistro (near the bow, menu shown above) and the Café @ Two70o (near the stern). And there are specialty places like Fish & Ships (chips) near the pool and the SeaPlex DogHouse (for hot dogs).

There also are many bars, including the Bionic Bar (shown above) tended by a pair of robots.
