That podcast’s guest might be the show’s sponsor

Would the host of a podcast pay a guest to appear? It might be the converse. An article by Ashley Carman on pages 13 and 14 in the August 8, 2022 issue of Bloomberg Businessweek is titled A podcast’s guest might be the show’s sponsor. You can read an online version from August 3, 2022 titled Podcast guests are paying up to $50,000 to appear on popular shows, which says:

“Welcome to the golden era of pay-for-play podcasting, when guests pay handsomely to be interviewed for an entire episode. In exchange, the host gets some revenue, fills out the programming calendar, and might bag a future advertiser.”

Radio shows also have to fill out their calendars. Back on November 5, 2014 I blogged about Coast to Coast AM – A conversation piece for insomniacs. They have to come up with four hours of content each night, and usually do so by getting authors of recent books to appear.

You can listen to them all in less than an hour. If you’d rather read than listen, take a look at his similar ChangeThis manifesto - Before You Open Your Mouth: The Keys to Great Public Speaking. Of course, you could also read the whole book.

On July 20th Nick started posting another series of podcasts from his more recent book, Trust Me: Four Steps to Authenticity and Charisma. That reminded me I’d meant to post about his earlier series. Enjoy!

Alejandro Anastasio: Life with One Hand

Alejandro Anastasio was the guest speaker at our Capitol Club Toastmasters meeting in Boise on April 6th. He talked for thirty minutes about his life, emphasizing clarity, courage, and compassion.

Alejandro was born without a left hand, but that hasn’t slowed him down much. He is a motivational speaker, an illustrator for the Bureau of Reclamation, a martial artist, a storyteller, etc.

Back in high school he wasn’t expected to excel at anything. Then his pottery teacher told him that he could make it as an artist. Boise Weekly has published two articles about Alejandro: One Man’s One-Hand Show and Just Tying My Shoes for Kids can Change Their Lives.

There is a podcast of his July 19, 2010 Story, Story Night tale about bicycling from Seattle to Chicago.

Podcast on How to Create a Great Speech

Alan Weiss just recently presented a wonderful 7-minute podcast on "Creating a great speech". You can find it and others in his series at: http://www.contrarianconsulting.com/category/podcast-series-the-way-i-see-it/

What is a podcast? It’s just an audio file you can play on your computer. You also can download it, save it, and listen to it later on. Then you can move it over to a portable MP3 player (iPod, etc.) and listen while you jog or drive.

UCLA has an introduction called "What is Podcasting?" that you can either read one chunk at a time or download as a big .pdf file to read later. See
